hi all just got back from a realy hecktic night i have strep b and thought my waters where leaking and was getting strong contractions every 5 mins so was told to go into hospital just to be sure and the only person i could rely on to look after my son was my mother, she is a carer and rang into work to say she couldnt come in for her morning shift as i needed to go hospital and they said no its not their problem and that its not her problem either as they are short staffed and work should come first. she is the only person who could look after my son and her work have known for months she would be the one looking after him when i do go into labour. she had to ring and ring begging them to give her the time off and in the end she took it anyway now they are frettening to fire her and she feels she has no choice but to quit i feel realy dredfull about this and just wanted to know can they realy fire her for taking the time off she doesnt ever have time off from work and often works long shifts without breaks (breaking the law doing so) and also is forced to go in ill especialy with diohrea (sorry about spelling) which is also against the law so i think they are the ones in the wrong overall. im also realy frustrated as after all that my contractions died down completely at bout 6am so i feel ive let everyone down and caused all this trouble for nothing =( sorry for the essay any replys appreciated             stacey & 38+2 week bump

Hi, ive just read ur post and think its dreadfull how ur mother is being treated, i think u should get in touch with ur local advice centre for help on this situation. Maybe there just trying to scare ur mum with the sack but either way she needs to know her rights as an employee and citizens advice will be able to do this free of charge. If they do sack ur mother and its without good reason (which sounds like it isnt especially as ur mum works long hours without breaks) she may be able to take legal action against her employer for unfair dis-missal. I hope things get resolved as this is the last sort of worry u need take care.     (Lisa & 33 wk pink bump on board)
