hi all, i was supposed to go to a breasfeeding class today but kind of slept in!  is it really worth going to one of these things.  I have read alot of books and think i have it all figured out.  I also watch a dvd of one of these classes and it seemed to be all saying the same things i've read about already.  should i say to the midwife and find another class before baby is due, if there's time. vikki 32weekpink bump and 2 monkeys.

hey vikki, id defently see if theres another class!ive heard the class is meant to be excellant!watching a dvd about its oviously going to help but in these classes they teach you more pratically.and lets just say if you are doing it incorrectly atleast theres someone to say your doing that wrong this is how to correct it.i started antenatal classes last week and i did debate whether to go thinking i know whats going to happen etc but you learn so much more and its nice to mix in with different people.its up to you hun as you have had 2 little monkeys before lol.vikki and 31 wk and 4 day pink bump p.s how weird we spell our names the same both neally the same weeks and both have a pink bump lol :) x

Hi there. Personally, I didn't do any classes - just read a couple of books about breastfeeding before having my first. But  I didn't find that reading up on it helped at all with actually doing it! When my son was born he latched on straight away for a half hour feed, so I was pretty chuffed I had it sorted - but for the next 2 weeks I had to really work at it to get him to latch on properly.

It's good to look at pictures of different techniques, and to be aware of different positions for feeding, but I think you'll find that you figure most of it put once your baby's here.

All the best, x x

hi. i don't understand how a breast feeding class would work without a baby!! there's no way in my opinion it would and no one yet has said theve been to one. if you have your baby in hospital they help you. your aftercare midwifes will help you too their all for breast feeding and want it to work for you. one thing though when you start it hurts, even if your doing it right!! it will for about 2weeks while your nipples get used to it!! and at the start babys only getting colostrum if their hungrey waiting for your milk to come through their on you forever!!! or so it seems. it'd be interesting for you to go to see if they tell you this!!! but do stick at it and let your aftercare midwife's help you.
