Advice needed

Lisa 221 Joined: 07/05/2009 Posts: 38 Advice needed Hi. my lo is 9 weeks old has been alert from day 1. he always wants to look around and sit up. if i lie him under his playmat he will quite often cry but sit him in his chair he's fine an will look around but even then tries to lift his head forward.. the other day i had him sat on my lap. he was sat up looking around the room when several ppl commented that i should still be supporting his head an neck. i recently went to a friends house and sat him in a "bumbo" seat which absolutely loved so have considered getting him one but have been told he is too young. i think i should encourage him to sit up more if thats what he wants to do but am fed up of being told that its the wrong thing to do. he also suffers from reflux an i think sitting up help him to do this. am i right to be encouraging this? is he too young for a bumbo seat?

People can give advice but as ive found bein a mum of two only you know whats best for your baby. Theres no such thing as an average baby and all are different. Hannah411 Joined: 12/08/2008 Posts: 2 Re: Advice needed I recently purchased a bumboo seat as my little girl who is 11 weeks loves being upright, the instructions on the box suggests use from 3 months up or when baby can suport his/her own body weight, also says to gage babies development before use. Emma501 Joined: 03/11/2007 Posts: 88 Re: Advice needed hi, the reason they same from 3 months is because if they sit up too soon and are unable to support their head and neck properly it can cause problems with their spine later on. I used to let my daughter sit in a bouncy chair so she was still fully supported but could still look around, she didn't like lying down either. she was able to sit unaided at 3 1/2 months old.
mummy2-1 Joined: 19/03/2009 Posts: 471 Re: Advice needed hey hun, my lil man was lifting his own head from birth, can sit un-aided for about 30 seconnds and already attemts to crawl at just 15 weeks old people kept telling me to stop him and try as i might he would still do these thing, at the end of the day if my lil man wasnt happy doing these thing or was feeling pain he wouldnt do it, ive NEVER encouraged him to sit un-aided or try to crawl etc he just seems to have cottoned on and wants to try these thing, ive spoken to my HV and she said if he doing it himself and im not making him just let him do it he knows he own strength, i think people have to remember that not all babies are the classic one you find in books and on the internet, you baby will learn at his/hers own pace...the only thing i would say is be carefull not to let your baby use sit or play with toys that arnt for his/her age group as im sure there have the age bracks for very good reason, so with the bumbo maybe just hold on for a lil while my lil man got his bumbo when he was 11 weeks old and is already learning how to escape from it (very cute and funny) its up to you hun only you know you baby xx
