Self-Feeding

I have a 10 month old daughter who rarely puts anything in her mouth.  She now has 4 teeth and doesn't chew on anything, which I find really strange.  With my first daughter everything went in her mouth but with my 2nd she just looks at it.  She is feeding really well, she is now on sandwiches but won't put anything in her mouth, any tips??? xxxx

I assume you mean she wont put food in her mouth herself?? My little boy was really not interested in food (he's 9.5 months) until recently (either off a spoon or finger food). Things like breadsticks are fab as you i'd put one end in my mouth and encourage him pulling it/biting it. Or he will feed me while i feed him finger food and then he'd start doing it himself.

sometimes really big bits are good (whole banana) or letting them choose from your plate...big bits of pasta etc? maybe she has had no teething pain and therefore has had no interest in putting anything in her mouth herself yet. good luck!

Try demonstrating to her how to eat & chew - just let her watch you & see if she will copy. Also try deliberately not feeding her. Put her food in front of her & leave her to it. You could sit by her or opposite her & eat yourself at the same time. My little boy also loves having his tunes on (music - nursery rhymes etc.) whilst he is eating - creates a lovely happy, relaxed atmosphere. Finger foods are great - breadsticks, crisp type organic baby snacks (carrot sticks etc.) baby biscuits, raw veg. or bread/toast. Best of luck - my boy would ONLY feed himeself on finger foods to start with for a few months & would not let me spoon feed him until much later - the complete opposite. Guess they are all unique little individuals who like to do their own thing in their own way.
