Hi All, i wanted to know if anyone has had this problem with  there child and can think of anything to help. My daughter  had a small bout of constipation which we have now increased her fibre with dates bran rasins u name it she has it. But the problem is this she has got to a stage where she associates having her bowels open with pain so she tends to hold it till she literally has to go and cries out in pain. Where she holds it iniatialy its a small bit solid but is then  fairly loose (sorry to be so descriptive). We have also been encouraging loads of fluids  and comferting her when she goes as its so distressing but we are kind of at a loss now as to what else we can do. Will she just grow out of it?  She is 15 months old.

 Hello! I suffered from having a constipated baby so I know how difficult it can be on both parent and child!

Increasing fluid intake is definately a must. Pear, mango and prune juices all have a laxative component in them, however the one that works best on my baby is prune juice. 1 dose of prune juice will likely not do the trick, you must give it to her often and also on days when she is not constipated to keep her bowels working.

Hi Dawn my little girl is 3 in April and we have had issues with constiption for about 6 months now.. She could go 2 weeks without having a poo, but would have loose stools in her pants, which is the soft poo silding out passed the hard poo, as the doctor informed me.. Doctor gave us lactlose for her which i think hasnt really helped her in anyway... Then after trying most things to help her poo like green veg, oranges prune jucice etc, i bought some fig medication from boots, which i must say has worked... I know how upsetting it can be to see your little one hold on to the poo because they are scared of it hurting... Hope ive helped good luck, and let me know if you have any joy xxx

Thankfully  the problem has now rectified itself and she seems a lot more happier.

hi, my little girl is nearly 4 and still has this problem. i have tried everything going to no avail. the doctor has given me everything he could even double doses which still hasnt stopped her from holding it in. waiting to here from a hospital referal which will hopeflly sort it out once and for all. i hope so, shes in nursery and it must be awful for her in school.x.
