Hi,just wondering if anyones little ones suffer with ear infectionsand if they have has anything been done to stop then.

my little Oscar now 13 months has had 10 in the last 10months,each time his ears drum bursts and his ear fills with gunk, its always the left ear and about 6 times the right has gone as well,he is in so much pain for about a week and the doctor keeps giving him anti biotics,he has just finished hiss 12th lot because twice when his swabs have come back he has needed different anti biotics to what they have put him on,the anti biotics give him a sore bum so then he has pain from that as well.

I have just demanded the doctor sends him to the E,N,T clinic at the hospital which she did but she told me it would be a waste of time but im sure their must be something they can do?

hi. your poor baby!! i cant believe doc has given him that much anti's!! maybe she means they won't do much due to his age? that's the only reason i can think of as he probably won't be able to answer a hearing test. but i imagine they have a test for his age group.

my doc kept saying ear infections in young children is one of those things you have to put up with! my daughter had them 2years before i referred myself. i didn't go to ENT though i phoned our hearing clinic who tested her and found something and they sent me to ENT.

if you scroll down in this section about 15posts, you'll find a post about ear infections and may find some advice there.

Hi Lorraine, wow your wee one started earlier than mine. Holly was 11 months when this first happened, was the right ear. She was given amoxicillin then every month it would happen again up to May so 6 times but then she got referred to the hospital. It happened in the left a couple of times but her right ear was left with a perforation as it stopped healing over.

We got an appointment through for August last year after being referred in the May so Holly was 18 months. They just looked at her ears and said its something that will heal over in time and they couldn't operate to fix it until she was 9 years old. He said come back in 6 months so went back last month and they said we will refer her for a hearing test as its burst again about 4 times since November, she had that the other week and her hearing was ok. Her dad had this as a child and his hearing is fine now although fine I do have to repeat myself sometimes - not sure if thats a man thing though ha! Definitely persevere with the hospital, can't believe she said to you it would be a waste of time!! Good luck, I know its horrible to watch them in pain, Holly got a sore bum too but now she is older she doesn't get a high temperature or anything with it, doesn't seem to bother her really. Jac, Holly 2 and 11+5 bump

Hi There, I have also suffered similar problems with my daughter, she has had  ear infections to many to mention and various antibiotics. She was eventually refered for a hearing test by my health visitor who confirmed her hearing was poor and suspected glue ear. My doctor then refered her to hearing specialist who confirmed she had fluid in the ear but however they dont fit gromits in now if they can help it only as a last resort  so we now have to wait another 3 months to go back to the hearing specialist in May  if she still has the same problems then she can be refered for gromits.I had gromits when i was little but unfortunatly for me it was not  sorted out until i was in primary school  so in away although its still a long process and im not happy when she is in pain im glad she is going to get somthing done this early as shes only about 15 months now.
