Eating with cutlery

My son is 15months and over the past couple of days has developed a dislike for cutlery. He has always eaten very well from a spoon and more recently from a fork. However, when I have tried to feed him the last 2 days he turns his face away as soon as he sees the spoon or fork but if I give him something that he can pick up with his hands he will eat it. Any ideas?

Only thing I can think of is a tooth ache, or I hate to say it... just a phase!.  Hope you find a solution. Nat x

hi i have a 15month old and since he was 10 months old he didnt want to eat using cutlery so hes always fed him self with his hands and he loves it and finishes all his meals. make the meals so he can feed him self without getting messy such as chopped potato instead of mash etc.

My 15 month old is the same - I've just handed over the spoon and fork (Plastic!) and let her get on with it! Messy mat on the floor, big 'catch-all' bib and stand back :-) She gets quite mucky but is doing surprisingly well. If she can't stab it or scoop it she just picks it up and shoves it in. Makes dinner time quicker and happier, also, it means I can eat mine while it's still hot!

My daughter is exactly the same refuses to eat her meals from a spoon or fork, just wants to use her fingers although now at 13 months she is attempting to use a plastic fork! she does let me feed her breakfast cereal and yoghurts from a spoon but anything else she has to do herself. it does get extremly messy at times but its all part of learning :)
