Hi everyone i'm new to huggiesclub and was wondering if you could help me, my son Oliver is almost 19 weeks old and unfortunatley im going back to work at the end of november this year and he will be 7 and a half months old by then, ive found a lovely nursery and enroled him there, i know its going to be really hard to leave him especially at first, does anyone have any tips to make leaving him easier not just for me but for both of us? And what was it like for you working mums and dads? Thanks Hannah :)

Hi.  Try not to worry too much, i put my little girl in nursery part time at 8 months and then full time at 10 months i found that because she was quite young she took to it really well she is now 18 months old and i can honestly say she loves it there and is so confident and sociable around other people and children.  I found that her speech really came on leaps and bounds as she is surrounded by lots of other children of all ages and they pick lots up from each other.  Of course some things can be negative she has picked up a couple of bad habits and the worst thing is the constant colds and infections they pick up so be prepared for this (that said they will probably have a brilliant immune system by the time they go to school and it does settle after a few months) .  The nursery usually let you do trial days where you can go in with your baby and stay with them before you go back to work, i found this particularly reassuring as it gave me a chance to see what the staff and children were like so speak to your nursery about this.  Perhaps if you take a speacial toy like a favourite teddy she may take comfort on this? You may get a few hiccups at first but your baby will settle after a week or two and then you will probably find that they are running to nursery as its an exciting place where all their friends are, i sometimes feel a bit gutted that my daughter is practically pulling away from me to get to the staff or other children! Ultimately the earlier the child is you usually find the easier it is for them to adapt so i dont think your child will have too many problems.  Good luck x
