 hello

my son has just turned 4 months old. He used to sleep 8.30 - 7.30 with one feed in between. he is breastfed. He has had a bedtime routine since day one, upstairs for a wash/bath, into the bedroom with the lights on v low, in his sleep bag, bottle then bed.

He has decided that he doesnt want to sleep anymore! He wakes every couple of hours and for the past two mornings he has been up at 5.30am ish. He isnt hungry as i have offered extra feeds but he is having any. He isnt ill.

He is in the room with us. We live in a 2 bedroom house and my 6 year old son is in the other room so its not fare to put him in there to d/esturb his sleep.

Has anyone got any suggestions ? thanks

hi, sorry i forgot to say.

He only power naps during the day, 20 mins - 45 mins x 3 times a day so its not as if he is catching up with what he is missing

Ive been havin the same problem with my little girl she has jus turned 5 months old and she used to sleep 10 hours but now she only has around 5 - 6 hours. She is teething so it could be down to that, coz they sleep less when they are teethin so i been told.

I had this exact same thing, but my little girl would not even sleep for more than 30 mins at a time.  The sleep specialist came round and told me that althou Lucy was not taking milk, she was probably hungry.  Lucy suddenly became really active and milk was no longer enough to keep her going, so i started to wean her....within 1 week she was sleeping throu again, and the first night she had a full tummy she slept til 5am.  Lucy only cat naps as well, and the sleep specialist told me that this can only affect her sleep in the evening if she had not slept at all.  But Lucy is up at 7am, nap for 20-30 mins at 9.30ish, afternoon nap again only 30 mins at 12.30 ish (after lunch).  Then a longer sleep at 3pm, bedtime routine starts at 5pm with bath, dinner etc, bed at 8pm.  Now when she has teething pain and she comes in bed with me, the next night she is right back into her routine.  The sleep lady also told me a fab piece of advice, that some babies just dont need much sleep during the day.  Hope this helps  - Maria

thanks very much for your help and advice ladies, its always good to know that your not alone!

Sam is now 19 weeks, i honestly dont think he will go to 26 weeks just on milk, i think i will start weening him soon. Maria, i like the sound of your sleep specialist, she is making more sense than my hv!

I will also get some teething powders in, they will come in handy very soon

thanks Clare
