SMP

Hi, im having problems understanding how my SMP works. I have worked for my Boss for 2 years and 2 months now and by the time i am due to take maternity leave it will be 2 years and 6 months. As far as i am aware i am entitled to SMP but not sure how much this is. I think for the first 6 weeks its full pay and then 60% of your monthly wage after that? Do different companies have different allowences??

.....So i spoke to the lady who does our finace today and she sed the 1st 6 weeks is 90% of my average gross earnings like you said, which is great! But i work on a rota basis so some weeks i work 25 hours other weeks i can work upto 50hours so still dont have any idea of how much ill get paid. An no i dont think you will get SMP as you need to be employed bu your emplyer for so many weeks before your pregnant, but if you look on. www.direct.gov.uk you can claim Maternity Allowance of the government i think. Hope that helps :)

hi loopylaura. they will work out your average pay for you so it will be somewhere inbetween both your hours and it's based on an 8wk period so you could try for a bit of overtime in that time scale!! think it's around 15-22weeks pregnant it's based on. so try not to have sick days in that time either unless your one of the lucky ones that get paid for being sick!! after 6weeks it drops down to the stat pay i'm not sure how much it is now, £150 a week something like that. but check your contract, if you don't go back to work some companies make you pay it back!!!

hi marika. i thought it was based from your 15week of pregnancy that you had to be employed from but i am very unsure, then the same time (15-22weeks) scale applies. either way you'll get paid maternity from work or gov as your working.
