Breastfeeding

Hi girls, 2 questions -

Has anyone combined breast and bottle before the recommended 4 weeks? How did you get on?

Has anyone heard of these breast protector things you can use whilst feeding to protect you? My mum seems to think you can get them but not sure where?

Thanks :) Jac, Holly 2 and 33+6 bump x

Hi there, I breastfeed my daughter for almost 3 months but I didn't introduce a bottle before the recommended time.  I will say this if you do want to feed baby with a bottle use the slowest flow teat possible and get someone else to feed the baby rather than you.  As for the breast protecters do you mean the nipple shields or the breast shells.  The breast shells are great if you are sore and leak when you're out and about. As for the nipple shields I never used them but I have heard that they can slow milk transfer from you to baby.  As for where to get the items boots, babys r us ebay. I've seen them all on sale.  For more info I would google the le leche league, and also get in touch with your local breast feeding support group as  well as your hospital breastfeeding co-ordinator.  Hope this helps. Hi, never breastfed before (well tried but didn't work out) I know the things you are talking about, I saw them in tesco the other day, they just looked like big teats really, not sure how much they were but I was very curious. Might have stuck it a bit longer if they had them 6 years ago when I tried, never mind. Not too long to go now.

Good luck, kerry.

hey there my son is 4 months+ and I breast feed I express a bottle for my partner to feed him whilst I have me time in the bath or in earlier days a sleep lol.

I had to introduce a bottle of expressed milk fairly early as I was so exhausted after the C section, and I also seemed to produce alot of extra milk.  I found the breast feeding support workshop extremely useful, go and talk to health care proffesionals, new mums and get tea and toast its wonderful.  It has def helped me with its constant support and advice.  Im so glad i breast feed as I feel so close to my son now and I love feeding him

Ive never had to use the shells or the shields I normally use breast pads and I find the special breast bottles the best to use as the teet is nipple like, even flexes the way a nipple does and it doesnt confuse the baby .  I was worried about using it at first incase he rejected me afterwards but he didnt.
