Sure Start Maternity Grant - did you get it?

What do you ladies think? We didn't get it first time round but weren't on any benefits. We have a 2 year old so get child tax credits now. The form says "if your child tax total is greater than £548 you  may be entitled" our family element is £547.50 but total is something like £1947 - so does that mean we could get it? Or would I be better to wait until baby is born. I'm nearly 29 weeks. Thanks

Hiya Jac,

I just got mine through today for my 1st child and I never understand them!  As long as I dont owe them anything and they are paying me something Im not to bothered! It could be in chinese for all I try to understand it!

I havent told them Im expecting yet as not 100% sure but I dont think they actually do anything until baby is here but as soon as this little one is out I will be on the phone to them for my entitlement!

Good luck! Lou x

Hi Lou, I mean the one off payment of £500 you can claim for from 29 weeks pregnant until baby is 3 months old? You have to get your midwife to sign the form then get a pre-paid envelope from the job centre to send off? x

Oh not sure about that one? I got the £190 but think our household income might be to much for the other.  Sorry I thought you were on about the Tax Credit stuff! It'll teach me to read things properly, baby brain!

hi. i got this first time and we weren't on benefits, we're not low income either. the trick is to wait until baby is born. it asks if you work, you put yes now you won't get it at all, put no when your on mat leave and after baby is born once child benefit and tax credtis is sorted you'll have a much better chance. your child tax credits will be higher than £548 after baby is born and you've claimed i would have thought. think you have 3mths after birth to sort it.
