hi,

me and my partner both work full time, ive been on the hmrc website and we wont qualify for the grant once the baby is born as were entitled to £972 child tax credits and it needs to be over £1095 or there abouts. once the babys born ill be moving back home to my parents for about 4 months so wont be living with my partner. so based on just my earnings il be entitled to around £3000. would i then be entitled to the sure start grant??

Hi, if you haven't had the baby yet how do you know you will get £972 tax credits?

Hi, Yes if you moved back in with your mum you would get it based on your wages as you will be classed as on your own, and Jac there is an online calculator so you can mess round with that to find out how much you could get. xx

The online calculator for WTC/CTC isn't the best in the world, because it only gives an indication for the part year not the full year.  In circumstances like yours, i used to recommend to moms to be to wait until the baby is born apply for tax credits when you move into your moms an then claim the Sure Start.  Be sure though to make the claim as soon as the baby is born, as it takes roughly 6-8 weeks to set up a new claim for CTC/WTC, You will need to keep on top of HMRC though just to make sure that the claim is processing, as I have known them take over 12 weeks to process!!

Hi, when you've had baby and moved back into mums, apply for tax credits and at same time apply for grant. There is question about Childs tax credits along the lines of if you are waiting for decision on tax credits. This way you know you've applied and will not forget before the time limit runs out. Don't forget to get the form  from job centre before baby arrives so you have it to hand when needed.
