Hi , im on baby number 4 and as this is my last child that im having i would like my 2 older children to be there. They have both been asking me can we come we would like to be there. They are 13 and 11, i would have a homebirth but my partner does not agree with this so we have decided on a hospital birth. My partner is not going to be there as he will look after our youngest  and to be honest i dont really need him there he is fine with this as am i. ive never had any problems in the past and have spoken to my children about everything that could happen etc they are both not detured and would still like to involved and come along. Im just wondering if they will be allowed im going to ask my midwife next time i see her  but ive a feeling they wont which i will be a shame as in one sence i think it would be good for them to see encouraging perhaps that they dont have children to young but also to be involved in somthing very special.

If you were having a home birth then I dare say its fine, but I'm wondering whether your midwife wil be concerned that they will distract you- you may worry about what they are seeing. You never can guarantee a good birth and it could be awfully stressful for them but at the end of the day- it should be your decision. Aski the midwife and see what she thinks. She may have alternative suggestions. Perhaps they could be with you during the early stages and then wait for you and help bathe the baby etc when it comes along while you are getting yourself sorted out/ bathed etc.
