Conceiving on Metformin

Hi everyone, I have PCOS but conceived our first child very quickly. This time we have been trying since May with no luck so my doctor has just given me 500mg of Metformin to take twice a day. I am just wondering if there is anyone else with this condition who have success stories of conceiving on Metformin? Thanks Jac & Holly 23 months x

Hi there, I have PCOS and it took me 4 years to fall pregnant with my son ( who,s now 16 months) .  I was 1 of the unlucky 1's who couldn't tolerate the metformin so I switched to insulin.  I still don't know whether that helped or just controlling my diabetes better and being ultra healthy but I'm now 33 weeks pregnant with my second.  What I can say is that if you can tolerate the side effects it does work but there is no time scale to it.  Have the doctors suggested you try a course of fertility drugs like clomid to kick start your system?  The side effects can be very nasty but it's worth it when it works.  I conceived naturally with both.  Keep positive and if anymore questions please get in touch. hi jacqueline, i also have pcos got diagnosed 8 years ago. so i always new i would have issues concieving. my problem was that i don't  ovulate naturally on my own and would have periods maybe once every few years. i had been tyring to get pregnnat for some time with no luck, so i asked my doctor to refeere me to a fertility doctor who started me on clomid 100mg on days 2 and 5 of my cycle i didn't really experinece mnay side effects from it about from some abdo pain and my vision went funny a few times. but i took if for 3 months and concieved in the 3rd round, i am now 31 weeks pregnant with my first child. so i would maybe speak to ur doctor about clomid it does have quite a few side effects, and you have to have regular scans and they will only allow you to take it for a certain amount of times becuse it can cause cysts ect. good luck.

Hi, I too have PCOS, we tried for 3 years in total to get pregnant.  I don't ovulate naturally and have to be given drugs, tio cut a lon story short I was given Clomid which didn't touch me, then went onto IUI with the gonadatrophins.  This didn't work at all so suggested I went on metformin, in this time i had ovarian drilling and then they changed my injectable drugs to a different one (which I can't recall the name of at the moment.  I don't know which one of these three it was but my 1st IUI procedure worked and now I'm holding my 2 week old baby.  I is such a long, hard and tough road but it is all worth it in the end.  i would say give metformin a chance, it helped me to manage my weight as well so that's a good thing, it can have some nasty side effects but for most people these wear off when your body gets used to it.  Good luck and if you're not happy with anything they're doing, tell them, it's your body.xx
