hello everyone, i was just wondering does anyone know who can get maternity grants? i heard there is one that everyone thats pregnant gets and theres also a sure start maternity grants that says you have to get family tax at a higher rate but i dont know what that rate is? thanks x

Hi, the Health in Pregnancy Grant is the one everyone gets. It's a one-off £190 and your midwife should give you the application form. I think you have to be at least 25 weeks pregnant to apply. I don't know about the sure start grants, sorry. Hope that helps!

the sure start maternity grant is mainly for non working families or single mums your best bet is to go to your local job centre or visit www.jobcentreplus.co.uk for more info on it as you may reach certain criteria or ring  0800 055 6688 (8am - 6pm Monday to Friday) here you will be able to ask for the number for the social fund then ring that and just ask for info on the sure start maternity grant oh and its a one off payment of £500 amd you can claim it from 11 weeks before your due date up to 3 months after the baby is born good luck with baby and take care
