l was hoping for a home birth but lam nearly 41weeks(on thurs) and lam gutted as this happened with my first child.l was due on june 18th as yet nothing has happened although lam not sleeping,in agony every nite and one leg is swollen,which according to my G.P is water retention,although l ahve had it 3weeks.Is this normal?

My feet and ankles are swollen too and have been for weeks.  I am just starting 40th wk of pregnancy.  It is water in the tissues and the heat isn't helping.  I know you probably can't do much else anyway but keep your feet up.  Keep them raised above hip level.  When sleeping I suggest lying on your side with your sore leg on top with a pillow between your legs.  I know nothing is comfortable right now.  Try not to be anxious Baby will come when its ready and if you can't have a home birth its not the end of the world...as long as baby is born and you are both well and happy.  Hope this helps.  Best of luck to you.  I hope your baby is born soon.
