'Induction Rights'

You may think that my next post is selfish on my part or just plain daft, but I'm looking for some advice, so here goes....I've been having these dreams every night this last week that I'm going to go over 2 weeks overdue with bubba, and that he's going to end up being a whopper i.e. 10/11lb baby, and for someone who wasn't too nervous about labour before this has really got me petrified!! I'm worried that I'll end up having to have a c-section or that there will be all sorts of complications cos I won't cope with being able to push him out! I know that first babies tend to come late and I accept that, and that unless there is any medical reason to, midwifes will let nature take it's course. I've been thinking about my options however, and I've decided that I'm happy to go over by a week at the most, by which time I would like some intervention, but I'm unsure what my midwife would say and what the plan of action may be. Should I write this down in a birth plan?? My midwife is really approachable so I will talk to her about it, but just wanted to get some thoughts from other mums who may have been through the same thing! Do you think it's wise to start all of the old wives tales to start labour from 39 weeks?? Hope you can help!!! Charlotte and 33wk blue bump. xx

I think the main thing to remember is that pregnancy is 37-42 weeks not 40 as everyone seems to think. Babies do tend to come when they are ready. I would advise strongly against induction unless medically needed, this is frompersonal experience and also being a midwife. When you have waited 40-41 weeks to see your baby another week for a healthy baby to arrive is nothing. There is a lot of research suggesting between induction and c section so why not relax and try and let labour start naturally. hope this helps tracey

I was induced at 38 weeks with my little boy due to obstetric choleostsis and i did it because it was safest for baby, but i wouldn't choose to be induced again. If i develop the condition again i'm going to ask about other options before inudction. all the best. Jenny, James 2 and 28 week blue bump x
