Pain in hips and legs

CATHERINE611 Joined: 31/10/2008 Posts: 2 Pain in hips and legs Hello mummies to be - I am 34 +2 and have started really suffering with my hips, legs and back. I mentioned it to a consultant last week and they basically told me anything below the waist was normal and there is nothing they can do. Since then it has gradually been getting worse and worse and I can't lie on either of my hips or back, so can't sleep. Am also geting shooting pains down my legs. I know this can be common, but should it be this bad and does anyone have any advice, I am sooooo tired and in pain:( Catherine and bump x
mummy2-1 Joined: 19/03/2009 Posts: 471 Re: Pain in hips and legs hey hun, its sounds like you have Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (spd) i suffered very badly with this while preggers it was extremly painfull, it hurt when i tryed to walk,sit, lay down etc there isnt much you can do but my midwife gave me some pain killers that were strong but safe (give your mw a ring) and rub abit of deep heat into your hips, thats what i found helped....my lil man is now 12wks old and im still suffering :-( xxx
lesley221 Joined: 06/05/2009 Posts: 1 Re: Pain in hips and legs hi,i agree,could be spd but if ur getting shooting pains in ur legs check with ur gp that its not sciatica,which is also very painful. my gp gave me paracetamol n codeine but if ur over 28 wks u cant take codeine. good luck.

jenny811 Joined: 13/01/2009 Posts: 32 Re: Pain in hips and legs hello, what your consultant said is disgusting and so untrue, bad pain and restricted movement is not normal. his is the kind of attitude i encountered when i had the problems 16 years ago! im now expecting twins and have had support for spd from day one, there is ways to handle it and improve symptoms, i have a maternity belt and got great advice from a physiotherapist :-) btw i dont think deep heat is safe to use in pregnancy so please check up on that one. good luck at the midwives jen and 28 week twin bump
